LIVING ROOM & STUDY

The living room at 221B Baker Street is the heart of Sherlock Holmes’ investigations. Centered around the fireplace, the room features armchairs, oil lamps, a Persian carpet, and heavy curtains that create a rich, atmospheric setting. The bookshelves hold medical texts and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, while a violin, pipes, and a soda-water maker known as a “gasogene” reflect Holmes’ distinct personality. On the desk, chemical apparatus, a quill pen, and letters from clients are arranged as though Holmes has just stepped away, drawing visitors into the world of the detective. The room offers a vivid, immersive experience of Victorian London.

Sherlock Holmes’ bedroom reflects his modest lifestyle. The Victorian bed and simple bedding are placed alongside clothing, hats, and outer coats hung neatly along the wall. A bedside lamp and books allow for reading and investigation even late at night. Persian slippers filled with tobacco and scattered medicine bottles reveal the overlap between his private life and his role as a detective. Though not luxurious, the bedroom—like the living room—functioned as part of his workspace, capturing the essence of Holmes’ daily routine and his immersion in deductive inquiry.

The first editions of Sherlock Holmes stories are invaluable artifacts that preserve the publishing culture of the late 19th century. Many were released following serialization in *The Strand Magazine*, including *The Sign of Four*, *The Adventures*, *The Memoirs*, and *The Hound of the Baskervilles*. With ornate Victorian bindings, these books captivated readers of the time. Today, they are highly sought after—both for their literary significance and their rarity. These displayed volumes stand not merely as books, but as historical witnesses to the birth and rise of detective fiction.
